Iliza Shlesinger of Last Comic Standing - Watch Old Video Clips

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Congrats to Los Angeles comedian Iliza Shlesinger for winning NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Looks like America agreed with me. Iliza will probably start going on tour and hitting clubs around the country, so I’m not too sure how many opportunities we’ll have to see her here in the L.A.-area over the next 10 - 12 months.

We’ve been writing about Iliza for a few years. So it’s cool to see her do well. What can you say…read about the comedians here…go see them in the clubs…and then see them when they make it big on TV and in the movies. It’s kinda cool. You can say…I used to watch them when.

Anyway, the folks at Current.com sent me some clips of Iliza that I thought you might dig. Iliza will be around for a while, so keep an eye out (and not just on her boobs fellas).

Last Comic Standing: Where is the Support for Iliza Shlesinger?

This season, there are two L.A. comedians still on Last Comic Standing (literally as I type) - Adam Hunter and Iliza Shlesinger. Here is what I find strange - the incredible support Adam Hunter is getting from his fellow comedians and the lack of support Iliza is getting. I am basing this off of the barrage of bulletins, event listings, and e-mails that I’m seeing on Myspace that say “Support Adam Hunter on Last Comic Standing”. Jay Davis, Steve Byrne, Andy Kozel, and some dude named Toogie…among others have all been promoting Adam Hunter via Myspace. I see none of this for Iliza. Why? I want to know why.

Of the comedians left, my choice is Iliza. I have seen her perform close to 10 times in person. I’ve done many write-ups on her performances at Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge and elsewhere.

I guess we’ll see who America thinks is funnier.

Iliza Shlesinger on Last Comic Standing: Full Audition

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Iliza Sheslinger was featured on this week’s episode of Last Comic Standing at the San Francisco audition and made it through to the semi-finals. Iliza is based in L.A. She’s very good. She takes the stage like she owns the place. I love how she still swears in the audition.

Live Comedy This Sunday in Los Angeles: UNREAL Line-Up at No Name Comics

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

In case you didn’t know…this Sunday is a Holiday…it’s Selection Sunday. The day that 65 teams are picked to participate in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. It’s an amazing day for a college basketball junkie like myself. Unbelievably…my Sunday just got about 33x better. Brad Stewart…the host of No Name Comics…just informed us of this absolutely incredible line-up:

Andrew Norelli
Iliza Shlesinger
Ryan Sickler
Christina Pazsitzky
Carlos Kotkin
Ed Galvez
Andrew Orvedahl
Alex Nussbaum
Brad Stewart

Are you kidding me? Folks…the first 4 comedians on that list are as good as it gets. Not just in Los Angeles…but in the country. Unreal. Selection Sunday. No Name Comics. Let’s do this.

Best Damn Stand-Up Comedy in L.A.

Friday, January 11th, 2008

Kicked off the year in comedy with a show at Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge at Red Rock on Tuesday night. Check the line-up:

Bob Bledsoe: ProfileShot - VideoShot
Jonas Garvin: ProfileShot
Matty “Ballgame” Balaker: ProfileShot
Iliza Shlesinger: ProfileShot
KT Tatara: ProfileShot - VideoShot
Duncan Trussell: ProfileShot - VideoShot
Ryan Sickler: ProfileShot - VideoShot

Highlights:
Bob Bledsoe kicked off the show and then wrapped it back around with a set in the middle that he is sending into Leno. I’ve seen Bob a few times and it was great seeing his classic material, plus the new clean stuff that will hopefully end up on the Late Night Shows. Jonas Garvin took the stage for the first time at Red Rock…I have not seen him before. Great stage persona…with some material development…he’ll be good. Matty Ballgame had me screaming out loud when we was talking about inviting his girlfriend’s friend over for a BBQ and a threesome. I’ve heard the joke before…but he nailed it. Iliza is always great…and KT is just a stellar comedian. He’s very polished. I expect big things from him. Duncan Trussell is an extremely intelligent, extremely funny individual who I could watch over and over again. I have the feeling this guy has tons of material at home that he’s just waiting to throw at us. I hope he never does clean set in his life…it would kill it. And of course Sickler took the stage at Red Rock for the first time in a while. I love this guy. He’s a buddy…so I’m biased. His new tortilla joke had me laughing “about 10 tortillas”. I’d like to see some new stuff…which I know we will. In the mean time…he’s comedy is like a good tune…I turn it up every time it comes on.
