I’ve loved Jay Malone’s comedy since the first time I saw him at Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge. It was really cool to finally get to chat with him on the podcast because he just seemed like a cool, down to earth dude. Turns out…he is. Seems like those Canadians always are. Plus…not only does he love Sidney Crosby…but he agrees that Mario Lemieux is better than Wayne Gretzky. That’s enough for this Pittsburgher to be a Jay Malone fan for life.

I’ve wanted to have Aisha Tyler on the LCLA podcast for quite some time. Basically because she seemed cool, she’s funny, and she’s hot. Turns out I was right. She’s down to earth and easy to talk to. I have been enthralled by wrestling for 25 years. I’m talking WWE-style. That’s a significant portion of my 31 years on the planet. I grew up with Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, and King Kong Bundy. I ordered every Pay-Per-View event. I went to see the shows live at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh with my dad. I owned the action figures. I was a Hulkamaniac. To this day, I still respect the success of WWF/WWE – fake, not fake – whatever you think.

One of the great personalities in wrestling history is Rowdy Roddy Piper. This week I found out he is performing at the Hollywood Improv. Comedy and Wrestling? Are you kidding me? Only Comedy and Porn beats that. I had the great pleasure of talking with “Hot Rod” for the podcast today. I can’t remember being this excited to talk to someone. Baltimore native and comedian Ryan Sickler stopped by the LCLA Podcast to talk NFL football. As it turns out, I’m a Pittsburgh-native, so Sickler and I have a friendly tension in our friendship due to the rivalry between the Ravens and Steelers. Good times all around.

Canadian comedian Todd Allen is on the cusp of doing something that thousands of people would love to do – sell a TV show. Next Wednesday, he is doing a live presentation of his game show concept in front of network execs with the hope that one of them will buy it and put it on the air. He has Merv Griffin Entertainment in his corner and a track record of successful shows performed live in Vancouver and L.A., so he’s hopeful. I thought it would be interesting to chat with Todd about how he was able to make this all happen.

Comedian Matt Baetz left L.A. a few months ago to pursue comedy on the road full time. Ballsy to say the least. I thought it might be cool to check in with him and get some road stories and see how things are going.

Back in June after my first visit to a Stand-Up at Candor show, I said Abbey Sibucao was my new favorite host of a comedy show. Mostly because she’s attractive and she had a dress on that showed off her “C’s”. I’m so predictable.

The reality is, Abbey is much more than a host of comedy shows. She’s a producer, a manager, and most importantly a huge fan of live comedy. And she wouldn’t stand for my talk of her “C’s”…she said they were “B’s”.

Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci, better known as Garfunkel and Oates, took a few minutes to chat with me this morning for the podcast. I would say they are probably the hottest act in the L.A.-comedy scene right now…or at least they are on their way to being the hottest act.

I tried not to do a standard “How did you get started?”, “Where did you meet?” chat because they’ve recently done a ton of interviews like that on other sites. So, we chatted a bit about one half of their name sake John Oates, the alt comedy scene in L.A., and the origin of some of their songs. I was a little off my game for this talk because I have not been as consistent recently with the podcasts…but I think it went well. The girls are super nice and if you have seen them live…they are hilarious. A couple of their videos are up in the video bar if you aren’t familiar. OK…I’m not gonna lie to you…this is more of a promo recording than a true podcast. Melinda Hill’s publicist contacted me and asked if I would do something on my site for her performance tomorrow at Literary Death Match. He said she was reading a piece called “The Handjob Hamlet”. I said that’s a no brainer. I’ll promote girls giving hand jobs all day long. So this call is short because Melinda is basically boarding a plane to L.A. from Vegas while we are talking. But we got in the important part…tomorrow she’s reading a story at an event at Cinespace about a girl giving a dude a hand job . Check the LCLA Comedy Calendar for details.
