I’ll be attending a stand-up comedy show every night this week…maybe two a night if humanly possible. Stay tuned for updates on which shows I get to and which comedians I see. I’ll post a schedule tomorrow night. I think I’ll call it “LIVE COMEDY WEEK”. Maybe we’ll make it an annual event. If anyone feels like joining me…let me know. Should be good times.
The best stand-up comedy shows in Los Angeles can be found in the most amazing places. Last night I went to Comedy Meltdown…a show put on by Linda Pine in the back room of Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd. Yeah…a stand-up comedy show in the back of a comic book shop. Brilliant. The line-up was stellar. The show was free. AND there were free drinks. REALLY? God bless these people and I hope they all become famous one day because they deserve it. Most of these guys are on strike from their jobs and others are still trying to “make it”…mean while they are making us laugh with what I consider their brilliance. I wish I was rich so I could just pay them every week to put on a private show just like this one…one day. Here’s the line-up:

Capatch was a stellar host. Jonah Ray was the surprise of the night because I had not seen him before. His material was stellar. Howard Kremer a.k.a Dragon Boy Suede is a phenomenal comedian. I need this guy to be HUGE because he is so damn good. Love him. Maria Bamford is brilliant. Literally thoughts come out of her mouth so quickly…it makes you wonder if she is a genius. And Dana Gould is a veteran comedian with a relaxed, professional style that I enjoy a great deal. Apparently this show is a once a month deal…so I’ll try to get in the loop and keep you up to date…because that’s what this site is for.

Last Comic Standing is looking for one thing - someone who can bring the funny! Candidates should be at least 18 years of age and be prepared to showcase their funniest two minutes for the talent scouts. The top comics from each city will advance to the semi-finals where they will be narrowed down to the top 10 finalists, who will then engage in a fiercely funny and fast-paced competition where only one will become the next Last Comic Standing.

Hottie comedian…Aisha Tyler…is performing at the Hollywood Improv tomorrow night - Friday, January 25th at 8pm. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing her in person unfortunately (just to look at her or see her do stand-up)…but I think she’s smokin’…and would very much like to get her…Sarah Silverman…and my girlfriend…all in the same room. Whoa…did I just write that out loud?

I feel it’s my duty to let the world know when a perfect storm could be brewing. Pornstars and Stand-up Comedy. It’s like a hurricane of tits and jokes. I can’t personally vouch for the show because I have not seen it…but from this VideoShot - I think you can expect a good time. The Crime Fighter - Sam Tripoli will be in the house. He’s a stellar comedian. And does it really matter which Vivid Video pornstars are in the building? I feel like this show will be big for the folks at the Ontario Improv a.k.a 909 Comedy.
Great line-up tonight for Comedy Juice at the Hollywood Improv…including Sarah Silverman, Drew Carey, Kevin Shea, Dan Levy, Ben Gleib, and Eddie Ifft. You’ll be going for Silverman and Carey…but Kevin Shea will be the surprise of the night for you…he is a stellar comedian.

Really big crowd last night for a solid line-up at Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge. First time Red Rock performers Ari Shaffir (you may know him from Joe Rogan’s crew) and Todd Womack (Video) crushed it. Ari is mostly associated with Joe Rogan so it was cool seeing him away from that crew because he absolutely has the talent to stand alone. Don’t get me wrong…it kicks ass for him to have a partner like Rogan…along with Joey Diaz…they have a killer show that everyone should see. Ari’s stage presence and writing are awesome. Todd Womack was a great suprise because I had not see him perform previously. I love seeing new, awesome comedians. I think Todd performs at UCB a lot…so I’m definitely going to check him out there. Hit up his videos when you have a chance.

A word on Thune. I thought he mailed in this performance and is capable of much better. I really haven’t seen new material from Thune in about 2+ years and didn’t really appreciate the fact that he wasn’t giving a full effort. You bring 100% every time…or stay home. Bone Hampton brings 100% every time…Jason Gillearn brings 100% every time…Joe Rogan brings 100% every time. Thune brought about 50% and his attitude showed. Having a bad set is one thing…mailing in a performance is another.
Comedy Death Ray is the most well-known show of the L.A. alternative comedy scene (by the way…I don’t have any idea what the hell that means…alternative comedy). Comedy is comedy if you ask me…as long as it makes you and I laugh…I don’t really give a fat fanny what they call it. Good news is…this is a killer line-up.

Brody Stevens. Boom. Straight from the 818. That’s right people…he’s from the Valley and damn proud of it. Brody is unreal. He is by far the most unique comedian in the city. And I’ll be quite honest…an hour of Brody makes me giddy.
