Fresh off last night’s killer set on the Late Late Show, you can check out local Los Angeles comedian Ryan Sickler at the “Ignorance is Bliss” show at the Hollywood Improv. Tonight’s line-up is stellar - the only comedian I have not seen his Hixx. Everyone else is top notch. You’ll want to stick around for Kevin Shea and Sam Tripoli…who are all-star performers.  $13 at the door.  Show starts at 8pm.

Host: Jonny Loquasto
Tobe Hixx

Canadian Comic Russell Peters at Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on February 16

Russell Peters seems to be a bigger stand-up comedian internationally than he is in the U.S. and the powers that be are trying to make him big here. Now…I’ve seen him a few times at the Laugh Factory…and I thought he was good but I’m not entirely sure what the deal is. I feel like this approach is forced…maybe it’s me. He’s playing theWaMU Theater at Madison Square Garden and the Nokia Theater down by Staples Center. My assumption is that “they” feel that there is a large enough international population in these two markets to fill these theaters…and pay $50 a ticket. So we’ll see how that goes. Check out this VideoShot…and if you want tickets…go HERE.

Lisa Lampanelli in Santa Barbara on February 8th

Sure…we’ll take you as far north as Santa Barbara here at Live Comedy L.A. to see The Queen of Mean. I’ve never seen her live…but she makes me laugh on the Howard Stern Roasts…so it’s probably worth the $35 because she rarely performs stand-up comedy in Los Angeles. She’s never at the clubs. Check her out in this VideoShot.

You can still get tickets HERE

Tig Notaro’s Live Comedy and Variety Show at Largo in Los Angeles

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Tig Notaro (far right in the picture) puts on her monthly variety, music, and stand-up comedy show this Monday, February 4th at Largo. You are going to love Tig…no doubt. I just saw her do a full stand-up set for the first time on Monday and she was off the charts…so I have to recommend checking her out at Largo. This show sounds pretty cool. Her blog says there will be some stand-up comedy, some music, some videos, a celebrity interview…sounds kinda tight. And look…she’s friends with Sarah Silverman…so you just might get a bonus shot if you go.

Call Largo and make a reservation so that you get a table for dinner. This would be a cool date.

Ryan Sickler on Late Late Show Tonight

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Live Comedy L.A. friend and favorite Ryan Sickler makes his broadcast debut tonight on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Sickler is the second guest. The show is scheduled for 12:37 AM.

We’ve written about him a million times…and he’s one of the best in the business…it’s so great to see that he will be in front of a national audience. Get ready for CAIDS and Dash of Downs to be household jokes!!!

Don’t forget to check out the trailer for Sickler’s movie Cutman. He and fellow comedian Tom Segura co-wrote the short film.

Artie Lange Coming to Los Angeles in April

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Ladies and Gentleman…the Great Artie Lange from the Howard Stern Show will be performing live stand-up comedy in Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheater at Universal CityWalk on Saturday, April 5th, 2008. April is shaping up to be a huge month for stand-up comedy in Los Angeles…when you add this show to the Chris Rock shows.

If I am not mistaken…Artie has not performed in L.A. in 4 or 5 years. He rarely makes a trip out here to perform stand-up. He is one of my all time favorites…and a must see.

On sale ticket info is slightly confusing right now…looks like tickets go on sale on Saturday, February 9th. However, there may be a possibility of getting tickets earlier…I will work on that and get back to you. Either way…Artie is a must see…take a look for yourself: VideoShot 1 - VideoShot 2

Comedy Meltdown 3: 3 Fast, 3 Furious Scheduled for 2.29.08

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Stand-up comedy…in the back of comic book shop…with an open bar…on a leap year date. Even more brilliant than before.

The line-up for Comedy Meltdown 3 is coming together nicely…looks like Jonah Ray (the surprise hit from Meltdown 2) will be hosting…and Jen Kirkman and Mike Phirman are in the rotation.  Los Angeles is filled with great stand-up comedy…this show hit my radar big time this month and I will make sure I’m there in February.

Sarah Silverman and Friends Gets Tons of Laughs at Largo

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Show: Sarah Silverman and Friends
Cost: $5 cover
Line-Up:
Nick Thune: ProfileShot
Morgan Murphy: ProfileShot
Mookie Blaylock
Tig Notaro: ProfileShot - VideoShot
Sarah Silverman: WikiShot - VideoShot
Todd Glass: ProfileShot - VideoShot

Largo is a very cool place to see stand-up comedy in Los Angeles. If you want a very cheap night of comedy, pay the $5 cover and stand at the bar. But that’s for the die hard live comedy fans. I suggest saving a weekend night out for one of their Monday night shows…and having dinner there. You still pay the $5 cover…and there is a $15 minimum per person at the table…but you get a good show. $20…dinner…great comedy…in Los Angeles…pretty rare. Everyone should understand what you are getting however…the comedians are very loose here…they use their notes…and they try out new material. If you want polished…go to the clubs…if you want very good comedians grinding out good stuff…this is a cool spot.

Thune was a very good host…he was enthusiastic and I appreciated his work. I’m still blown away by the fact that there is a comedian named Mookie Blaylock…and he’s not the retired point guard from the Atlanta Hawks. Odd. Tig Notaro definitely delivered the set of the night. She is simply an amazing stand-up comedian…and totally clean. She’s so cool…and calm…I love her. Sarah Silverman was on-point as well…which was great…because the last few times she literally has forgotten her set. When she’s on…she’s one of the best. Todd Glass was great too. I really would like to see a polished set from him as well. It’s fun seeing him work out material though.

BTW…just chillin’ tonight…didn’t go see a show. I’ll keep you updated on the other shows during LIVE COMEDY WEEK.

Sarah Silverman and Friends at Largo Tonight

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Sarah Silverman, Todd Glass, and Tig Notaro anchor a solid line-up tonight at Largo and will kick off LIVE COMEDY WEEK here at Live Comedy L.A. (Say hi if you see my girlfriend and I at the bar). The show starts at 9pm. Doors at 8pm. Reservations for dinner are already booked so you have to head down early and get a spot at the bar. It’s worth it for $5. Grab a spot in line…on the “non-reservation” side…and you’ll be fine.

If for some reason you don’t want to go to Largo tonight…Live Comedy L.A. favorites Ryan Sickler and Dana Min Goodman are performing at Westwood Brewco at 9:30pm. They’re stellar performers…and I’ll be catching them later in the week at the Improv. Sickler will be laying down his classic material in prep for some big time coverage…and Dana is the dirtiest player in the game…you won’t believe what comes out of her mouth. It’s the goods.

Update: Sickler had to reschedule the Brewco for next Monday.
