Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge at Red Rock - 6/19/07

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Line-up:
Kris Lezetc
Matt Baetz
Matty Ballgame
Kerri Pomarolli
Keith Healy
Jason Gillearn
Ian Bagg

Sorry for the late update…a girlfriend and running a start-up company will do that…no excuses though…that’s bush league. Matty Ballgame was back in town…thank god…you could just tell the difference in the quality of the show. I’m not gonna lie to you though…the constant Ciroque Vodka announcements were ridiculous. I’m always honest with Matty about his show…and this was just over the top. If they want to sponsor the show…then great…we’ll do everything we can to create value. They want more ideas…I’ve got them…but don’t use one show to determine the value. And constant announcements…although funny at times…got annoying. The show is what it is because we can all go to just enjoy comedy. That’s where the value is created. Anyway…enough of my rant on that…let’s get on to the great comedy of the evening.

Kris Lezetc
Well…Gillearn unfortunately said it best…”Give it up for the fuckin’ sexy lady.” Kris seemed to have some funny things to say…but I really don’t remember what she was saying because she is smokin’ hot, has a great ass, was wearing hip hugger pants, and a belly shirt. Now I’m the biggest fan of stand-up comedy there is…but I’m a man first. Kris…probably should just wear regular clothes…and concentrate on the material…everything else is too distracting. I guarantee no dude in the audience was listening to her jokes…and that’s unfortunate. Just tellin’ it like it is.

Matt Baetz - www.mattbaetz.com
Solid first time show at Red Rock. He was the first guy to call out the panel of judges at Red Rock and it clearly became a theme for the rest of the comedians during the night. I want to see him again to get his material down.

Matty Ballgame - www.myspace.com/balaker
Gotta love Matty Ballgame’s confidence level up there now…I’ve mentioned this before…but it continues to grow. And I really appreciate that Ballgame comes with current events material…a sign that he is really trying to write new material on a daily basis. However…he knows how to close with his best jokes…the one about his girlfriend sticking her finger in his ass…and the make-up joke…are just stellar in my opinion.

Kerri Pomarolli - www.kerripom.com
I love Kerri. She’s just so cool up there. She has this quality where you want to be friends with her. One great thing about Ballgame’s shows is that he puts up great female comedians…but doesn’t make it gimmicky. You gotta respect that…and I think the ladies appreciate that…and they always bring their A game for the Red Rock show…and Kerri sure did. Definitely need to see her more often.

Keith Healy - www.myspace.com/jokehead69
Keith definitely had a tough night. Usually has some decent stuff…but it just wasn’t there tonight. I think Keith needs to start writing some new stuff now. I like Keith though…he’s a solid performer.

Jason Gillearn - www.myspace.com/jasongillearn, www.symbolcards.com/comedy-cd.php
There aren’t too many comedians more consistant than Gillearn…and recently he’s been bringing the goods with a ton of new material. The sex role playing joke about he and his wife where he plays a postman and his wife plays a retard is off the charts. There is no line with Gillearn…he has no boundaries…and I love it.

Ian Bagg - www.ianbagg.com
This guy is a legit headliner. It really seems like he goes up there with very little material but can some how fill 20 minutes with no problem. He’s gifted. He’s very quick and fun to watch.

Next Show: July 10 with Ryan Sickler and Chris Franjola

Improv - 6/16/07

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Line-up:
Sidihki Fuller
Jim Gaffigan
Trish Suhr
Daniel Kino
Bill Dwyer
Daniel Tosh
Dom Irrera

Sidihki Fuller
Honestly…I’m gonna take this guy to task…and it may be justified…and it may not be…someone can tell me. But the dude made two jokes that he took from somewhere else. One was about blow jobs curing breast cancer…and he referenced CNN. Come on dude…we’ve all gotten the e-mail with the link that takes us to the fake web page with an article on CNN.com that says blow jobs cure breast cancer. How are you going pass that off as your own. Then he made the joke about people saying his name wrong…including his teacher. Suli McCullough has the exact same joke. Now it is possible for them to have the same joke I guess…but they are pretty damn similar. I hope this guy didn’t take it. Suli does it way better. But I’m just sayin’.

Jim Gaffigan - www.jimgaffigan.com
Wow…Gaffigan twice in one week. Hilarious again…still did bacon material…and you know what…I still laughed my ass off. Yeah…it’s that funny.

Trish Suhr - www.myspace.com/trishsuhr
This was my first time seeing Trish. She has a ton of energy…and has great stage presence. Probably some material development…and she’ll be right there.

Daniel Kino
Daniel was the suprise of the night. Love seeing a new face and he just hits it out of the park. He came with a ton of jokes. So many that unfortunately, I can’t remember one to give you. But trust me…he rocked. I’m gonna catch him again and make sure to give you the scoop.

Bill Dwyer
Dwyer is solid. This guy with jokes about his kids…is solid. This was my first time seeing a full set from him. I saw him do two minutes last year for Last Comic Standing auditions. I’d like to see him again.

Daniel Tosh - www.danieltosh.com, www.myspace.com/daniel_tosh
Tosh is unreal. The guy just popped in this time and did 10 and was awesome. I’ve said it before…you need to see him. Watch his Comedy Central Special btw.

Dom Irrera - www.domirrera.com
A legend. I’ve seen Dom a bunch…but he has so many jokes it’s like he could go for days. Killer set.

Largo - 6/11/07

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Line-Up:
Wayne Federman
Jim Gaffigan
Sarah Silverman
Greg Fitzsimmons
Doug Benson

Largo is such a cool place to watch comedy. $5 to get into the show. And if you want dinner…$15 per person at the table. Great deal for this kind of line-up. I love the intimate environment. Very different vibe than one of the bigger comedy clubs…but still very cool.

Wayne Federman - www.waynefederman.com
First time seeing Wayne. He rocked. He’s impression of NBA commish David Stern was dead on and his continuation of him being a being a Jewish man was just stellar work. I’ll go see Wayne any day of the week.

Jim Gaffigan - www.jimgaffigan.com
Gaffigan is absolutely stellar. He’s unreal. The guy does not curse…and he’s just amazing. He did like 7 minutes of material on bacon…and it was hilarious. But to me…the joke of the night was about the spelling of Bologna. There’s nobody out there better than Gaffigan. Go buy “Beyond the Pale”. I need to buy his other CD’s.

Sarah Silverman
I absolutely love Sarah…but once again…she disappointed me with her stand-up performance. She had no idea what was going on. I think she was high. It was ridiculous. She wasn’t completing jokes…that I knew. She was starting in the middle of jokes. She was telling unfunny stories. I don’t know what the hell was going on here. But this isn’t the first time this has happened. When she’s on…she’s unreal. But it’s really hit and miss with her stand-up performances.

Greg Fitzsimmons - www.gregfitzsimmons.com
I love Fitz. He was trying out a bunch of new material…which I always appreciate. He’s by far one of the best writers in stand-up today. I need to pick up his CD “Fitz of Laughter”.

Doug Benson - www.dougbenson.com
Benson was solid. Always is. Didn’t do McGriddles…but that’s ok. He’s workin’ some new stuff too. As long as he keeps bringing these folks to the table at Largo…I’m there.

Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge at Red Rock - 6/5/07

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Kinda of a late update for this show…but honestly…it’s the first Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge I was disappointed with. Mostly it’s based on expectations. Matty Ballgame didn’t produce this show…he was out of town…so it’s just a testament to how great of a job he really does. Without him…it becomes just like every other room in the city…comedy by attrition. Instead, Matty puts up a mix of the best headliners and up and comers in our city. I’m only gonna mention one comedian from this line-up because to be honest…everyone else was forgettable.

Tom Segura
He’s hilarious…and quickly becoming one of my favorite comedians. I love when white guys aren’t afraid to do racial humor. His joke about segregating sports is off the charts!
