Thursday, May 17th, 2007

Line-up:
Brendon Mulvihill
Andrew Norelli
Kyle Smith
Mike Friedman
Jay Larson
Brody Stevens

I actually hosted the show on Tuesday which was awesome. This was only my third time ever doing stand-up and it’s been 4 months since the last time…but I was really happy with the way it turned out. I just tried to keep it loose. Ended up doing about 9 minutes which was more than I thought. I’ll post the video on my Myspace. Awesome crowd once again. I’ll say it again…and the comedians agree…this is the most unique room in L.A. You have to check it out.

Andrew Norelli - www.myspace.com/472582
Andrew actually writes for Comics Unleashed. He jumped all over my blow job rant which was cool. It was the first time I had seen him and I thought he was great. I wish I could remember more of his jokes…but to be honest…it was right after my set…so I was still thinking of my stuff. Good guy though…I’m gonna check him out at some other places so I can give you more of his stuff.

Kyle Smith - www.myspace.com/kylesmithcomedy
Kyle “The Hooker Stabber”…kicked ass again. Straight up from S.D., he didn’t disappoint with some guitar work, and father molestation songs. Always quality.

Mike Friedman - thecomedyjunction.com
Ryan Sickler says Mike looks like Tony Danza’s broke son…hilarious. Mike’s from NY…for some reason you gotta love the guys with the accents tellin’ jokes. Apparently, Mike was denied by someone who had 10,000 friends on Myspace…that’s rough. Hopefully, Mike’s show at El Cid will be back up soon.

Jay Larson - www.myspace.com/whoisjaylarson
Jay has cool Boston accent…again…with the accents. Did a lot of new stuff last night…which I dig. Love his grandma jokes. Gotta check out Jay.

Brody Stevens - www.myspace.com/brodystevens, www.brodystevens.com
Brody is the luckiest bastard on the planet…dude hangs out with Leeann Tweeden on a daily basis at Best Damn Sports Show…WTF!!! He’s by far the most unique guy out there…just rants…tells you where your high school is…BOOM! I love Brody. And his blogs and bulletins. Get out and see him.

Ballgame’s Laugh Launge at Red Rock - 5/1/07

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Line-up:
Ron McGehee
Matty Ballgame
Chris Franjola
Brian Scolaro
Bone Hampton
Alonzo Bodden

Last night’s show captured everything I love about stand-up comedy. Relaxed, fun, intimate environment. No lines. Nobody pushing a two drink min. Talented up and coming comedians I have not seen before. Old favorites that make me scream out loud like a chick. And a big time headliner just spinning and working out material for the love of comedy. Throw in a completely crazy chick in the audience…and a moment where the crowd was actually heckling the crowd…and you have a spectacular night out of laughing and fun!

Ron McGehee - www.funnyron.com
I love seeing new comedians…and this is the first time I saw Ron. So good. “I used to live around Sunset when I first started in the business. Then the business asked me to leave.” If you get a chance to see Ron…get there…solid set.

Matty Ballgame - www.myspace.com/balaker
I gotta tell you…Matty Ballgame’s confidence level is sky high right now…I can just tell. I don’t know if its the new haircut or that he’s getting more stage time at places like the Brea Improv with top guys like Bert Kreischer…or maybe it’s just all the comedians kissing his ass to get stage time at his show…but whatever it is…it’s making a huge difference in his set. I’ve watch Matty develop over the past year…it’s just awesome to see him get better and better…especially with his stage presence…which is so key for a comedian. Material is always first…but if you have presence…it puts you on the next level. My favorite Ballgame joke of the night…”Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Lindsay Lohan decided to put their difference aside for one night and go out and be complete whores!”

Chris Franjola
Chris probably had the set of the night…he was awesome…and since I had not seen him before…it was unexpected. Love that! Red Rock doesn’t get a lot of comedians that do current events humor but he was nailing it out of the park. Loved this one, “Gore says that global warming is being caused by over population. He also says that if the polar ice caps melt due to global warming, 700,000 people will die. Fuck…sounds like our problem is solved.”

Brian Scolaro - www.brianscolaro.com
There are four jokes that make me scream everytime I hear them…no matter how many times I hear them. Jokoy’s “Fighting”…Dane Cook’s “Someone Shit on the Coats”…Ryan Sickler’s “CAIDS” and Brian Scolaro’s “Sneezing”. And I think his might be the funniest. I can’t type it here…but it is absolutely the fucking funniest thing I’ve ever heard. I write to Brian and ask him to perform it if I know he’s going to be in the line-up…that’s how good it is…and I still laugh like a little bitch. That’s when you know it’s a good joke.

Bone Hampton - www.comedianbone.com
Bone is a Red Rock favorite…and the fact that he works clean is unreal. Everyone has Myspace jokes now…his is the best. And I loved when he says don’t call him African-American…he is BLACK.

Alonzo Bodden - www.alonzobodden.com
Watching Alonzo Bodden at Red Rock is one of the coolest experiences in stand-up comedy. Because he just goes up there and spins. No bullshit…no prepared set…just raw talent…it’s so impressive because he’s just a funny man. So calm…and smooth. Loved it.

I wonder why these guys all aren’t doing something on television because they all have more talent than most actors you will ever see. Please get out there and watch them…there’s nothing better than a good laugh in your life.
